Why I Haven’t Hiked Mt. Fuji Yet

There’s actually a good reason I haven’t hiked Mt. Fuji yet - I’m lazy. Seriously though, after 5 years here, there’s still a ton of places I haven’t been to and things I haven’t done here in Japan that are still on my “to do” list.

There are a many places I like going in Japan. Hakone is a great place to relax. Osaka is great for fun. I recently moved to Sendai and I think a trip here would make for a good weekend.
I have hiked Mt. Fuji and I recommend it!
Tom, 2 days ago my wife, daughter and I went to Hakone for the first time. (We made it a day trip on the train using a couple of our seasonal JR discount tickets.)
First we hit an outside onsen at the base of Hakone-san - incredible. Then we took a train, a cable car, and finally a gondola all the way to the top of Hakone-san. Awesome full horizon view of snow covered Mt. Fuji. Plus, the top of Mt. Hakone has sulfuric steam boiling out of it - looks and smells like hell.
They have a stand where they sell eggs that they boil in the hot yellow and green water bubbling up. They turn black. Quite tasty though - said to add 7 years to your life for each one you eat.
Train ride back sucked - hit Tokyo at evening rush hour!
